What You Need To Know

Plimoth Patuxet Museum Visits Pine Hill 3rd Grade!

On February 9, third graders had an opportunity to meet and ask questions to Timothy Turner. Timothy, who is part of the Cherokee Nation, has been a museum curator at the Plimoth Patuxet Museum for the last 34 years. He educated the third graders on the Wampanoag people. The Wampanoag are still in Massachusetts and are mostly on the Cape and in Martha’s Vineyard. In the 1600’s, the Wampanoag were thriving with 100K-140K people, however today there are approximately 5000 Wampanoag people left.

There was a large selection of tools for the third graders to see and touch. The third graders saw an ax, stone knife (did not get to touch this item), scraper, stone drill, wooden bowl and spoon, stirring paddles and a cradle board. Timothy demonstrated how the cradle board was worn. The strap would be worn across his forehead while the baby was in the carrier on his back. The children learned that the clothes worn by the Wampanoag people were all for protection. Most of the clothes were from animals like white tail deer and beavers. They would also take fat from black bears and smear it all over their body. This created a protective layer and would prevent frostbite. Overall, the highlight was when a black bear fur was passed around the room!

Thank you, parents! This program was sponsored by Enrichment and would not be possible without your contributions to the CSA.

Thank you for those that already donated an Auction Item!

If you are new to the Gala/Auction, it is our bi-annual fundraiser which we have been unable to have since 2019.

It is a widely attended, well-received event, and the primary way that we fund two years of enrichment activities for our kids.

The Auction and Gala is an all hands on deck event, where we come together as a community to raise money to enrich our kids' school experience so we are hoping for active participation from all of you!

Any help or leads will go a long way - even if you know a person who knows a person!

Have a lead for us or ready to donate? Use the buttons below to submit a lead for a donation or to donate an auction item directly.

If you can help showcase a country in any way, please sign up here by Monday, February 27.
