Techsploration Program Visits Fourth Grade

On Monday, 3/13, the fourth grade classes welcomed back Techsploration, an enrichment program on types of energy and how energy works!

They learned about the acronym SCREAM Today to learn names of energy: Sound, Chemical, Radiant light, Electricity, Atomic, Mechanical Kinetic, and Thermal (heat). The student volunteers acted as atoms passing around electrons (balls) to create circuits.

A variety of energy topics were explored and the students were enthusiastic about the subject material, learning about batteries, solar power, electric vehicles, potato clocks, and, their favorite, a Van de Graff generator! They then had class size workshops on circuits and electricity!

Paul Revere’s House Visits 5th Grade

On March 15th, Pine Hill’s 5th Grade students were visited by an outreach program from the Paul Revere House. The students learned about Paul Revere, “The Man Behind the Myth”, and his famous “midnight ride”.

Then, breaking down into small groups, the students examined reproduction artifacts and documents written by Paul Revere and presented their findings to the class.

They discovered many fascinating details about Revere’s business ventures, family life, and contributions to the American Revolution.

Mad Science® visits Pine Hill!

Pine Hill's students & staff experienced a one of a kind enrichment program this past Friday.

Mad Science of Southern MA & RI introduced students to the principles of air and pressure and how they affect the world around us.

Children were amazed by a hot air balloon that rose high above their heads, a giant vortex generator that sends out bursts of air. Volunteers from the audience were even able ride on a cushion of air!

DS POSITIVE and Challenge Success

The Emotional Life of Teenagers with Dr. Lisa Damour

Dr. Lisa Damour will be discussing her new book, The Emotional Life of Teenagers, as well as other topics relevant to our community and children. This exciting opportunity is brought to us in conjunction with POSITIVE. 

The discussion will center around issues Dr. Damour sees with teens nationwide, as well as specific topics recommended by the DSMS Guidance department.

Pine Hill CSA Book Fair

We’re excited to be hosting the Annual Book Fair in the Pine Hill Auditorium again this year.

The Book Fair is a beloved PHS tradition and a wonderful time to volunteer at the school. The two-day event offers a wide selection of books for children, as well as some for adults. A generous portion of the proceeds go to the Pine Hill CSA.

📚 Four Ways to Purchase Books

1. Attend the fair with your child’s class on Wednesday and make your purchases that day
   

2. Send your child on Wednesday with cash or blank check payable to Aesop’s Fable (with max amount in memo section) to make his or her own selections
   

3. Have your child complete a wish list when they visit the fair, and then you can make purchases when you visit the fair later that day or the following day
   

4. Purchase online at https://aesopsfable.com and indicate Pine Hill Book Fair at checkout. (Note: these books will be delivered later to the school)

🍎 Teacher’s Wish Lists

You can also contribute to your child’s classroom by purchasing books from teachers’ wish lists to enrich classroom libraries. Teachers’ wish lists will be displayed in the auditorium for easy reference, or you can find them on the Aesop’s Fable website.

It’s also a great time to stock up for Easter, birthdays, and teacher gifts.

With the Pine Hill Digital Directory, you can access the contact information of folks in our school community from wherever you are. The online directory costs $15 per household and directly supports curriculum enrichment programs, materials and equipment that improve student learning.

If the cost poses a hardship, please email Dr. Brown (brownb@doversherborn.org) and she will gladly cover the fee.

An email from DirectorySpot will be sent to the email address entered when purchasing with instructions on how to access the directory.

Sherborn Library Reopens Today!

The Sherborn Library will have a "soft" opening on Monday, March 20, 2023. We are thrilled to welcome the public back to the renovated space. Details coming soon about a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony this spring!

The operating hours will be increased, so the space may be enjoyed into the evening hours:

Monday, Friday, Saturday 10 AM - 5 PM

Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday 10 AM - 8 PM

Bring your A-game on Saturday, April 1 to the Sherborn Community Center. Hosted by the Friends of the Sherborn Library. Dinner catered by Blue Ribbon BBQ, beer, wine, and other refreshments. Doors open at 7pm, trivia begins at 7:30pm.

Meals for Ukraine on March 31

Dover Unplugged at St. Dunstan's returns with a family-friendly community service opportunity. Please join us as we package 18,000 meals that will go to Ukraine. All ages welcome and several opportunities for volunteer hours in addition to packaging itself.

SPRING FIELD HOCKEY CLINICS!

DSYFH is offering a series of skills clinics this Spring for grades K - 8th. Players will be broken into age and skills groups and coached by the DS Varsity Field Hockey Team players. This is a great opportunity for brand new players to try field hockey and for our experienced players to work on taking their skills to the next level in the off-season.
Dates: Saturday, April 29th, May 6th, May 13th and May 20th 
Time: 1:00PM - 2:30PM (one hour of skills and 30min scrimmages)
Where: DSHS Turf Field
Grades: K - 8th (Players will be grouped by grade and skill level)
Fee: $45/clinic or $180 for all 4 clinics.

The Dover Sherborn Soccer Club in collaboration with the Anthony Rougier Sport Foundation will again be offering a series of soccer clinics this summer. Sign up for as many sessions as you would like.
